The hedge fund industry was hit pretty hard in 2008. In general, ” Hedge funds, whose ‘rocket scientist’ analysts said they could obtain positive returns no matter what, failed miserably”.

2008 was a tough year for hedge funds considering the volitile markets and investor redemptions. Unfortunately, hedge fund regulation is likely to increase as Congress passes more laws with the intent of regulating the capital markets. Starting a hedge fund will become much more difficult in this new regulatory environment.
